This video is part of internal training content produced for Bloomberg. My brief was to develop a strong visual style for the overall program while adhering closely to Bloomberg's brand guidelines. In an initial conversation with the client, we discussed the course content, specifically the concept of identity.
After conducting visual research and gathering references, I created a mood board. This is one of my favourite things to do as it helps to translate loose concepts into visual signifiers. Finding suitable references can take a lot of time; however, a well-researched mood board allows you to communicate your ideas to the client and bounce them around to identify what resonates with them. The mood board enables the client to understand where the design is heading and functions as a baseline that informs the design process and keeps the original vision alive. An excellent mood board also generates excitement for the project from all sides.
After discussing the mood board with the client, I produced a style frame to demonstrate how I would employ some of its visual elements in the animation's design. Once the mood board and style frame were approved, I handed off the design to other designers to roll out across the different course elements while I continued to design and animate this video. The animation is smooth but not overly complicated, and this is an excellent example of how a strong design delivers impact and contributes to effective communication and powerful storytelling.
Here is the sketched storyboard and the fully designed boards prior to animation.
