When Learning Pool refreshed its brand, it rolled those changes out across its website. I worked on this video, embedded on the homepage. Another designer had started work on the video design, but it was up to me to complete this task before moving on to the animation.
I have worked part-time as an animator for Learning Pool for about six years. My time is usually dedicated to designing and animating work for its clients, so this was a lovely opportunity to do something for the company.
The design needed to be clean and fresh, incorporating the new branding that featured specific icons and colour gradients. Another directive was to use abstraction rather than relying too heavily on screenshots or captures of the learning experience platform. It was more important to convey the main features than to present the details. In addition to not dating the video, it provided some great variety in the visuals.
One of the things I like introducing to motion design is depth. Sometimes, a designer can use depth to change perspective, moving the user closer to a subject or immersing them in it completely. Aside from these other intentions, creating the illusion of a real 3D space always adds another layer of interest. For many scenes in the video, I positioned elements at different points along the z-axis and added subtle camera movements to create parallax effects. I love how this looks and how it captures your attention; there's something about seeing images move in three-dimensional space that helps to connect them and bring them to life.
